Patrick Van Fleet is a professor of mathematics and the director of the Center for Applied Mathematics at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.   The goal of the center is to promote applied mathematics at the undergraduate level and to make undergraduates aware of the type of jobs available to applied mathematicians in business, industry, and education.  Professor Van Fleet's primary research focus is on wavelets.  In addition to publishing papers on wavelets, he has developed an undergraduate class on wavelets and their applications and has run multiple minicourses at the Joint Meetings and elsewhere about teaching this class.  Most recently, he has written an undergraduate textbook on wavelets and their applications.
